Fascia and Interstitium 2.0 (Neil Theise)

Fascia and Interstitium 2.0 (Neil Theise)

Dr. Theise describes his team’s specifications of novel anatomy of the interstitial spaces (“interstitium”) within fibroconnective tissues (“fascia” and others). While it is long established that fibrous “reticular” networks are continuous throughout the body, his group’s initial observations, which “went viral” in 2017, did not address the question of whether these spaces were also continuous through the body or segregated into tissue or organ specific units. His most recent work (version 2.0), soon to be published, confirms such bodywide continuity of these spaces and suggests that it indeed comprises an organ-size, body-wide communication network. In part 2 of his session, Dr. Theise uses complexity theory to further explore the diverse natures of our bodies, going beyond the gross or microscopic levels to explore the deeper nature(s) of the “boundless body.”
